Carbon Positive has secured financing to design and distribute clean burning stoves in a pilot project in Uganda and Ethiopia. During the pilot project various stove designs and distribution and monitoring models will be tested Carbon Positive has secured financing to design and distribute clean burning stoves in a pilot project in Uganda and Ethiopia. The Columba Green Carbon Trading Partnership has replaced the postponed LISTEN campaign as the pilot project financier. The Columba partnership is a group of individuals keen to explore the possibility of sustainable large-scale stove distribution through carbon finance. During the pilot project various stove designs and distribution and monitoring models will be tested, methodologies for securing carbon financing identified, and a detailed business plan and implementation model developed for the subsequent launch of a large-scale stove dissemination project financed primarily through the generation of carbon credits. The pilot project will be undertaken in the Benishangul-Gumuz region of Ethiopia and Mubende District in Uganda. Detailed data gathering and project design is already underway in the chosen locations, with stove distribution expected to begin in September 2006. The project is being managed through Carbon Positive’s Africa office in Nairobi, Kenya. Additional information: www.carbonpositive.net/viewproject.aspx?projectID=2&results=10 News date: 31/07/2006 |
