Seven more signatories and members of the National Business Initiative (NBI) have added their names to the 31 companies already pledged to South Africa’s Energy Efficiency Accord, which forms part of a national drive to encourage more efficient use of energy. At a recent function, in Johan-nesburg, Advanced Micro Devices, BHP Billiton, Mittal Steel, Richards Bay Coal Terminal, Shell South Africa Energy, Unilever and Woolworths demonstrated their pledge by signing the accord alongside the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Buyelwa Sonjica. The accord is a key component of the Energy Efficiency 2006 and Beyond (EEM2006+) campaign, which was established as a joint venture between the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME), the National Energy Regulator of South Africa and Eskom.
