$40-million hydro agreement signed between Ethiopia and Norway

The development of hydropower resources in Ethiopia, including the Mandaya and Bako-Ambo multipurpose projects, will be funded by a $40M agreement signed with the government of Norway.
Approximately $35M of the agreed grants will be used to fund feasibility studies of the Mandayo and Bako-Ambo schemes, which are planned for the Ethiopian regional state of Oromia.

The remaining funds will be used on a collaboration project between Hawassa and Mekelle Universities and the Norweigian University of Life Sciences to study ways to improve the livelihoods of rural communities in the arid highlands of Ethiopia.
