Ethiopia: Consortium wins contract for Mandaya and Beko Abo feasibility studies

Ethiopia has awarded a consortium comprising of Norplan, Norconsult, EDF and Scott Wilson a NOK 86M (US$14.6M) contract to conduct the feasibility study for Mandaya and Beko Abo multipurpose projects on the River Abay.
Earlier studies had suggested the Mandaya and Beko Abo sites could be developed to produce 12,100 and 12,600 GWh/yr respectively. The new studies to be undertaken by the Norplan consortium will be financed by the Ethiopian Ministry of Water Resources (MOWR) through a grant from the Government of Norway.
