The study jointly agreed between the Egyptian and German governments will enable a new wind energy site to be tapped. The project, under the lead responsibility of the Egyptian Energy Ministry, is being prepared by the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA). The proposed area for the wind park, Gabal el Zeit, has an area of around 700 km² and is situated along the coast of the Red Sea between Ras Ghareb and Hurghada. The site has the potential for a wind park with a total of around 4000 MW. The study aims to provide information on the wind potential available at the identified site and on how the electrical energy generated in the future wind park can be fed into the Egyptian interconnected system. The terms of reference and the tender dossier for a bid solicitation from consultancy firms following international public prequalifications were coordinated with the NREA. The publication of the prequalification took place at the end of May 2005. The study will be available at the end of 2006. Additional information: News date: 01/08/2005 |
