SolarNow is a social enterprise headquartered in the Netherlands with operations in Uganda, Tanzania, Mali, Senegal and Burkina Faso. Our vision is to become the market leader in off grid domestic solar installations – the next big utility breakthrough for emerging economies. We aim to provide solar energy to at least 1.2 million people in 2015 while offering market-conforming financial returns to investors. The company was founded in 2011 to take over and commercialize the operations of the Rural Energy Foundation – an expert and award winning NGO in domestic solar supply in Sub Saharan Africa. Already up and running in Uganda, SolarNow sells high-quality, reliable solar home systems through its own branches and a network of certified dealers and installers. A key to affordability is the offer of 12 months credit terms – a program which is managed in-house. Operations are designed to be highly standardized and low-cost. The expansion of commercial operations in Tanzania is being prepared and scheduled for October 2011. The Country Manager (CM) Tanzania will lead the implementation and expansion of operations from the head office in Dar es Salaam. Self sufficient and highly motivated, the CM will - build the organization in Tanzania, achieving significant and immediate growth while maintaining controllership and staying within agreed budgets. - take specific responsibility for managing marketing and sales activities and reaching sales targets, while at the same time maintaining a high quality of the credit portfolio. - As leader the CM drives the whole team to reach maximum efficiency and ensures sufficient staff and management capacity is created to balance growth and control. A hands on approach is essential and the role will require extensive travel in country. The ideal CM is a dynamic, self-motivating professional with a clear ability to set targets and achieve output from a team. 2 years relevant experience in emerging markets is required, preferably in a start-up business or high growth organization. He/she is a pragmatic decision maker, who takes responsibility and delegates effectively. He/she has led sales teams in the past and has experience with credit assessments and policies. He/she is a strong and effective communicator. Experience with solar PV is preferred but not essential. SolarNow pays local market-conform management salaries of EUR 2,500-3,500 per month. Contract is for 1 year with the option to extend for 1-2 years. Success will result in additional income and equity opportunities as the group realizes its potential.
